The name “Derwent” can be traced back to 1913 when the owner of a property further up the road a Mrs F Gibbs, moved into the property and brought along the name “Derwent Private Hotel and Boarding Establishment.” The Murrell family took ownership of the Derwent in 1947 when it was a boarded-up building containing just 28 bedrooms, considerably less than the 174 there are today!
With less than 5 minutes walk to Torquay’s seafront, the Derwent offers easy access to the attractive harbour and town centre. The Torquay Land Train also has a convenient drop-off point right outside the hotel, which offers a fun way to get around for all ages.
The TLH Derwent Hotel has 174 en suite bedrooms which are located over 4 floors. There are a number of family rooms available, sleeping from 1-5 people, along with adjacent twins and doubles which are a popular choice for families with teenagers. The bright and comfortable bedrooms all feature a private bathroom, TV, telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. Most rooms have lift access, and free Wi-Fi and free parking are also included.
Drinking and dining in the TLH Derwent is an informal affair.
