The troubles is a term used to describe a period of conflict in Northern Ireland that lasted 30 years from the late 1960’s until the Good Friday agreement in 1998.
Catholics consider themselves Irish and hold Nationalist views, wanting an independent Ireland free from British control, Protestants identify as British and Unionists and wish to remain linked to the UK.
Today it is much more peaceful and the North of Ireland is a lovely place to visit and offers a friendly welcome.
