Suggested Itinerary

Monday
Arrive at hotel in Ilkley – Evening meal included.

Tuesday
Travel to Thirsk to visit The James Herriot Museum with free time in Thirsk before travelling to
Leeming Bar to catch the Wensleydale Railway for a scenic railway journey (Diesel) to Leyburn the
station used in the show and is known as the Herriot Country Line where the coach will pick up the
guests and return to the hotel via Askrigg where the programme was originally filmed and was
known as Darroby. This is where you will see the Drovers Arms (Kings Arms) where there are many
pictures of filming in the village as well as the real Skeldale House before returning to the hotel.

Wednesday
Visit Grassington – (Darrowby in All Creatures Great and Small) Here you will see The Stripey
Badger Bookshop, The Church, Skeldale House where James lived and run the veterinary practice.
Grassington’s Post Office becomes Wood’s General Store. The Devonshire pub (Drovers arms in
the second series) where exterior shots were filmed in the show , as well as some lovely scenic
walks by the river. A guided tour of Grassington can be arranged at extra cost if you sooner not
self guide . You can also opt to visit the Church where James and Helen got married which is St.
Wilfred’s Church in Burnsall, about 4 miles from Grassington on a country lane overlooking the
River Wharfe.

Thursday
Travel up the A1M to Richmond to the Richmond Museum, where you will see the set for All
Creatures Great and Small then on to the Aysgarth Falls and a visit to the Wensleydale
Creamery/ Cheese factory for a tour on the way to Hawes which is the highest market town in
England where we will see more sights from the Show including Darrowby Cattle Market, Bus
Stop at Redmire village Wensleydale. You will also enjoy a sheepdog demonstration in Hawes Which will take approximately one hour.

Friday
You can either keep this day free for the driver or take a trip into Skipton where they can have
free time or if you wish to add Skipton Castle (Not included in the original price) and enjoy the
town of Skipton and visit Broughton Hall, near Skipton which is known as Mrs Pumphrey’s house
in the programme.

Saturday
Return home direct or via Skipton if you choose to take a free day on Friday to free up driver hours.
